The nurse’s aide, also referred to as a certified nurse's assistant, is a health care professional that helps incapacitated individuals. They typically work at hospitals, nursing homes, and in private residences. They work one-on-one with a patient to help them make life more comfortable on a daily basis.

Most people that use aides are often elderly and some have health care issues that require the assistance of someone trained in a medical capacity. In North Carolina, there are several steps aides must take before they can work in the profession.
